Kruger National Park

"The Kruger National Park"
as an exceptionally rich mix of wildlife, with some 490 species
of birds, 147 mammal species including the BIG 5, 94 different
reptile species, 33 types of amphibians and over 200 different
kinds of trees. The Park as 24 main rest camps with a choice of
facilities and accommodation, most of the camps have shops and
restaurants.
"This BIG 5 Game reserve" is situated in the
north eastern corner of South Africa, nestled between the two
borders of Zimbabwe and Mozambique. To the west of the park is
the Blyderiver Canyon, Pilgrims Rest (living museum) gold town,
together with various waterfalls and scenic drives which can be
visited before entering and after leaving the park.
On arrival at ORT airport Johannesburg
South Africa we travel by road through the lower meander scenic
route into the old gold town of Pilgrims Rest while listening
to the many stories of the Gold era and a bygone age of the early
pioneers. Our travels will take you through the upper escarpment
to the Blyderiver Canyon and the three rondawels,
the evolution of
the Bourke's Luck Potholes and the views from Gods Window that
the early pioneers found while passing through to find new settlements
to the North. As we descend into the lowveldt we enter the famous
Kruger National Park with a chance of seeing
the Big 5 of the animal kingdom of the Lion, Elephant, Rhino,
Buffalo and the elusive Leopard. The tour offers excellent photo
opportunities for both the amateur and professional photographer
alike, the recommended minimum stay in the park is 2 nights.
Pilanesberg Safari Park
Approximately 3-hrs drive north of Johannesburg is South Africa's
forth-largest National Park "Pilanesberg". This
Malaria Free Safari Park is situated in 50,000 ha, and encircled
by four rings of hills formed 1200 millions years ago by an ancient
alkaline volcanic crater. In 1979 Operation Genesis involved what
was at the time the largest translocation of wild game ever undertaken.
Today Pilanesberg is the home to some 7000 animals,
including the Big 5; elephant, lion, leopard, rhino & buffalo
as well as hyena, Cape hunting dog, sable antelope & cheetah.
Pilanesberg is situated within the transitional zone between the dry Kalahari
and the wetter Lowveldt commonly known as "Bushveld", creating
diversity for more than 350 species of bird, 65 reptile species,
18 amphibians & thousands of other smaller animals.
For those wishing to stay overnight; accommodation
can be arranged in one of the nearby Bush Lodges or in Sun City; refreshments
are available at selected locations while on route during the Bush Drives.
Hluhluwe/Umfolozi Game Reserve
This KwaZulu-Natal Safari Park was proclaimed as a protected
area in 1895 together with St Lucia making it one of South Africa's
oldest game reserves. The corridor between the reserves was proclaimed
a game reserve in 1989 thereby linking both reserves to form the
Hluhluwe/Umfolozi game reserve of some 96,000
hectares in size.
The park as become famous for the conservation of the Black
Rhino and the White Rhino, it was here that the White Rhino was
saved from extinction. The park is now making extensive efforts
to save the Black Rhino from the same fate, in the past 15 years
the Black Rhino numbers in Africa have decreased drastically from
14,000 to below 2,000. It is estimated that about twenty percent
of the world's population of both Rhino occur in the park.
The Reserve is noted for its wide variety of
bird and animal life, with the BIG 5 of Lion,
Leopard, Buffalo, Elephant and Rhino as well as
wild dog and many antelopes that roam freely in
the park.
The reserve is also reputed to have been the
private hunting grounds of the Zulu King Chaka
